Channel and Voltage

Choose N-channel for low-side/high-side in most topologies; P-channel for simple high-side switching. Match VDS (voltage rating) with 1.5-2x derating above your rail.

Resistance and Charge

RDS(on) determines conduction loss; gate charge (Qg) affects switching loss and driver requirement. Low Qg parts switch faster with less driver power.

Package Selection

SOT-23 (small signal), PDFN/SOP-8 (mid power), TO-220/TO-263 (high power). Thermal resistance and PCB copper determine real capability.
