The MAX485 is a half-duplex RS-485 transceiver with 1 driver and 1 receiver, operating up to 2.5Mbps with slew-rate limiting at 250kbps. It runs at 5V and comes in DIP-8/SOIC-8.
RS-485 uses a differential A/B pair with 120-ohm termination at both ends. DE/RE pins control direction; tie RE low and toggle DE for transmit.
