Overview

The LM393 contains two independent comparators operating from 2V to 36V single supply. Outputs are open-collector, requiring pull-up resistors, and can drive loads or logic levels.

Applications

Voltage threshold detection, zero-crossing detection, window comparators, oscillator circuits and sensor triggering.

Design Notes

Add hysteresis (positive feedback) to avoid chatter near the threshold. Pull-up to the logic rail defines the output high level.

Sourcing

Available as LM393N (DIP), LM393DR (SOIC) from TI/ON/ST and domestic equivalents. HuaXinGou verifies stock and batch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does LM393 need a pull-up resistor?
Its output is open-collector; the pull-up sets the high level and enables wired-OR connections.
What is the supply range?
2V to 36V single supply, or ±1V to ±18V dual.
Can LM393 drive a relay directly?
Only small relays with a transistor buffer; output sink current is about 20mA.
